Our research focuses on understanding how skeletal stem cells (SSCs) regulate the formation, maintenance, and regeneration of skeletal tissues. We investigate the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying physiological and pathological bone formation and seek to determine how disruptions in these processes contribute to developmental abnormalities, degenerative disorders, and skeletal diseases. A central goal of our laboratory is to define the functional diversity of skeletal stem cells and understand how distinct stem cell populations contribute to the development, homeostasis, and repair of specialized skeletal tissues. By identifying previously unrecognized stem cell populations and elucidating their interactions with surrounding cellular niches, we aim to uncover fundamental principles governing tissue regeneration and disease. Beyond their roles in skeletal tissues, we are interested in how skeletal stem cells influence physiological and pathological processes across organs. Our research explores how stem cell-mediated regulation of local microenvironments affects immune function, tissue homeostasis, and inter-organ communication. Through the integration of stem cell biology, developmental biology, immunology, and regenerative medicine, we seek to uncover new mechanisms underlying human disease and to develop innovative therapeutic strategies for skeletal, degenerative, and immune-related disorders.
