Solar hydrogen production has been regarded as a key technology for solving the environmental issues because it utilizes two earth-abundant and clean sources, light and water. However, photocatalytic hydrogen production has a relatively low solar-to-hydrogen (STH) efficiency, due to the inefficient utilization of sunlight, charge recombination and sluggish kinetics of the surface reactions. Therefore, designing photocatalyst with broadened light absorption, enhanced charge carrier mobility and fastened reaction kinetics for hydrogen production is crucial in this field. To date, our group has investigated various particulate photocatalysts and photoelectrodes for solar hydrogen production.
