The research of the Coding and Communications Research Laboratory (CCRL) is focused on analysis and design of error-resilient and efficient schemes of error-correcting codes, post-quantum cryptography, and machine/deep learning. Especially, we have been working on various aspects of signal processing techniques for communication, storage, radar, cryptographic, and deep learning systems. Recently, we have been working on the following four main research topics. We have designed and analyzed various error correcting codes such as Turbo and LDPC codes for cellular communication systems and SC-LDPC and Polar codes for 5G systems. We have been also working on the error correcting codes for memories such as NAND Flash memory and DRAM. We have been designing signal processing algorithms for improving the performance of various radar systems. Specifically, we have studied and designed military radar systems for detecting/tracking very fast moving targets and autonomous vehicle radar systems to cope with various unexpected circumstances. In the next-generation mobile communications and Internet of Things, high error-correction capability, low computational complexity, and efficient memory management are required, and various error-correcting schemes have been studied to satisfy these requirements such as low density parity check (LDPC) codes, spatially coupled LDPC (SC-LDPC) codes, Bose-Chaudhuri-Hocquenghem (BCH codes), and polar codes. NAND flash chip contains several planes and each plane consists of a set of blocks. A block has many pages and each page consists of many memory cells.
