Coordination solids constructed from metal ions and organic bridging ligands consist of molecular building units and exhibit exquisite crystal structures and physical properties. Our laboratory utilizes synthetic inorganic chemistry to design novel multifunctional molecule-based materials. We leverage redox-active building units to access highly tunable electronic and magnetic structures that are unprecedented in traditional solid-state materials. As the instantaneous decoupling from carbon-based energy is challenging, the simultaneous advancement of sustainable energy harvesting systems and efficient energy utilization is critical to meeting climate change goals. Our laboratory is interested in utilizing unconventional redox-active materials with unparalleled properties to advance technologies in energy storage and electrochemical water purification.
