We study how microglia and CNS macrophages maintain homeostasis and respond to inflammatory and infectious challenges. Our research focuses on intracellular signaling, immunometabolism, and the cellular mechanisms governing macrophage survival, activation, and functional adaptation. We investigate the molecular organization of the blood–brain barrier (BBB), focusing on endothelial surface proteins, immune cell trafficking, and barrier remodeling during neuroinflammation. We seek to identify new targets for modulating vascular–immune interactions and delivering therapeutics across the BBB. We explore how peripheral sensory neurons communicate with immune cells and the vascular, lymphatic, and hematopoietic systems at CNS borders. Our goal is to uncover the mechanisms of bidirectional neuroimmune communication and understand how these interactions shape tissue homeostasis, immune surveillance, and responses to disease.
