Electro Ceramic Laboratory (ECLAB) was founded in 1973 by the late Prof. Jae-Dong Byun, a pioneer in electro-ceramic materials research. In 1996, Prof. Sahn Nahm succeeded the laboratory and led extensive research spanning bulk ceramics, thick/thin films, and nanostructured materials, with a primary focus on piezoelectric and dielectric materials. Piezoelectric materials are intelligent functional materials that convert mechanical energy into electrical energy and vice versa. Our laboratory focuses on surpassing the physical limits of Pb-based (PZT, Relaxor-PT) ceramics through structure control, alongside innovative Pb-free composition design and TGG (Templated Grain Growth) process optimization. By precisely tuning "Soft" (high d33) and "Hard" (high Qm) properties, we deliver optimized piezoelectric solutions for next-generation devices. These materials are essential for micro-actuators in surgical robots and mobile devices, as well as ultrasonic sensors for autonomous vehicles and sonar systems. They play a pivotal role in energy harvesting, high-frequency RF filters (BAW/SAW), and PMUT for MEMS-based diagnostics, serving as the backbone for future precision control and sustainable energy conversion technologies. Dielectric materials are the cornerstone of modern electronic devices, efficiently storing and controlling electrical energy in response to external electric fields. Technology that supplie
